Welcome to Heywood and Middleton Deanery
The website aims to provide a central resource pool for information about the Deanery, its churches and parishes, to keep everyone in touch with everything that’s happening in the Deanery.
If you wish to publicise an event at your church, then please contact us and we will post the information on the website.
Minutes of all meetings will be published as soon as they are available, so why not beat the postman and download them from the site. They are also there in case you lose your copy!
You can also find details of who the Deanery Synod members are and who is on what committee. We hope eventually to be able to show everyone’s photo so you’ll know what we look like as well.
There is also a very useful BIBLE SEARCH tool for finding that quotation or verse which contains a particular word.
All comments and feedback would be much appreciated, as would any articles for future incorporation.
Enjoy! Pictures above (left to right): (Click each picture to see the bigger picture)

Deanery Event “Two Sisters and a Funeral” The United Christian Singers (UCS) presented a performance of Roger Jones’ new musical “Two Sisters and a Funeral” at All Saints & Martyrs Church, very warm (literally!) and welcoming church, to a goodly audience of around 120 from most churches in the deanery and from other local churches from a variety of other denominations. Unfortunately, for a few members of the audience in one area of the church were affected by an amplifier problem that arose during the evening, which meant that they experienced some difficulties in hearing some individuals’ parts of the performance as clearly as others did. So, many apologies to all those affected, and also to those inconvenienced by the school car park being unexpectedly not being available on that evening. Apart from those problems, the performance was hugely enjoyed, with some of the audience wanting to know where else it was being presented so that they could go and see it again! So, if you missed this performance or wish to see it again, the answer is : Saturday November 26th at Chapel Street and Hope U.R.C., Lamb Ct, Salford M3 6AF at 7;30pm and Friday 20th January, 2012 at Bolton Road Methodist Church, Bolton Rd Bury BL8 2NZ at 7:30p.m

Good Friday Walk A goodly crowd, of around 30, turned out for the ‘Walk Of Witness’, as we took turns to carry the cross from St Mary, Birch to St Thomas, Bowlee. We started with a short service at St Mary’s before forming into a procession to start the walk. We paused a few times on the journey to sing a few verses of hymns to neighbours who came out to meet us as they were unable or too unwell to join in the walk. We ended the walk by erecting the cross in the garden at St Thomas, and all gathered round at its foot to sing ‘When I Survey’ following a short reading to complete our witness. “Come and Sing!” Two Sisters and a Funeral Click picture to see all the photos
Over 140 singers from all areas of Manchester, many from our Deanery, came to Bamford Chapel on Saturday 5th March to work alongside Roger Jones, the composer, and his soloists to learn his latest musical, ”Two Sisters and a Funeral” during the afternoon and then to sing to the public in an evening performance. It was a hugely successful event. Examples of comments received “What an inspiring time at Bamford Chapel today.” “Let’s have more of these!” “It was such a brilliant afternoon and evening, most enjoyable and worthwhile, the first time I have done anything like this and I loved it!”
We are hoping to host a production of the musical, by the United Christian Singers, later in the year at All Saints and Martyrs, in the same way the deanery supported their production of Roger Jones’ previous musical, the hugely enjoyed and sell-out “Rock”, a couple of years ago. Watch this space!
